DIY: Letterpress with the Cuttlebug

Hey Everyone!

I am so excited about this post and cannot wait to share my latest discover. There is something you have to know about me. I love letterpress! I love the feel and texture of the depressed print into a thick piece of card stock. Yes, I am talking about paper and card stock, but you already know that this stuff makes me very excited!

I have been scouring the internet for a long time trying to find out how this print method could be done at home and I was at a loss for a very long time. Each time I found something it would consist of making a huge contraption out of wood and using tools and muscles (something I sorta lack) to put it together. 

I have an embossing/die cutting tool called the Cuttlebug by Provocraft and thought that there must be someone out there that has put something together using this, there just has to be! I mean I wasn't totally wrong,I constantly searched "How to make letterpress stationary with the Cuttlebug" and more with fewer or more words. I found quite a few videos using it but they either used another platform with their machine called the L letterpress starter kit by Lifestyles but that cost about $60 and I was not going to be dishing that much out. I couldn't do it because it looked so similar to what I already had. 

And then it struck me, just like that (tends to happen when I am just mindlessly thinking.)I could make one of my own using the plates I already owned and some other things I had on hand. I tried it before, but I was missing a key ingredient at the time and had gotten my hands on it at the last One of a Kind Show in Toronto during the winter.

Enough of my explanations! Here is the DIY: 

February 2013 Whimseybox content

I was gifted a one year subscription to Whimseybox as a birthday gift back in February (Eeeep!) and have been anticipating to share it on here as soon as it arrived. After waiting almost two months, I finally got my February Whimseybox! I was really excited to get it but they had a few shipping issues. My March box is already on the way so I am sure it was just a short hiccup. Whimseybox is a monthly subscription service that sends you a few products to give you a creative boost. With what they send and your own stash you can make tons of things. They also have samples of things made from the kit's content each month which can also get you started. There are also submissions from other people who have made things from the boxes too. I love the surprise in waiting for my box and discovering what is inside!

I would just like to share the content from my February 2013 box so that everyone can see what you can potentially get if you decided to order. Another thing I love about the service is that I can get all the new on trend things without having to buy them separately or in my case, go crazy buying everything in every type of product in the newest trend. 

Weekly (but really, monthly) Picks

Haven't done this in such a long time, but its really because school (as much as I love it) is taking up every waking minute of my life! Now that I came back from Chicago, (will post about this later) and am officially on March break, I will be posting more during this week. I will make some posts ready to go out for the next few weeks so I can share more with everyone! I will also (for now) be changing my Weekly Picks, to a monthly sort of thing so that I can update it more frequently.

The first thing I wanted to share is this lovely reclaimed walnut wood tabletop. If anyone is looking to buy a reclaimed wood tabletop, tables or any décor within Toronto or the GTA, I would most definitely hit up this place! 

Now that summer is (hopefully, soon) coming, I am all about headbands and fun colors! I love these cute knot hair bands that I found on Etsy, take a look though the shop, there are some lovely things hidden there.

I love to scrapbook, I haven't shared anything here yet, but that is coming as soon as I have enough things ready to go! I love using Thickers, they are my favourite kind of letter stickers and remind me of the puffy sticker collection I had as a child. These are a great foam set by Amy Tangerine for American Crafts in a foam rubber mulberry style. 

Chevrons are everywhere right now. I love this pillow available at Chapters/Indigo. The use of white with burlap makes me melt! I love the combination of burlap and anything so I had to add this pillow into my picks.

I've been finding myself in Chapters almost weekly because they have the most beautiful entertaining section. I always end up leaving with something, usually a home décor book or magazine because I am really into home styling at the moment. I walked past this beautiful tea cup and saucer set and wanted to purchase it immediately  If I had the space for it I don't think I would have hesitated one bit. Once I settle and  have my own place that is the exact colour of china I have chosen to collect.
