DIY Workshop: Bracelet Make & Take

On Monday October, 14 2013 Kaamilah Boutique is having an Eid al-adha hennah night. Kaamilah Boutique is a newly opened store which plays host to multiple Muslim-owned businesses in the GTA.

I will be hosting a Make & Take for beaded bracelet making from 5-10 pm. Come out, have fun, shop and make a bracelet for yourself to take or make a few to give to your friends as gifts for Eid! These bracelets will look great on their own or stacked.

You can also buy Eid Decor, Halal handmade marshmallows, gummies, artisan soaps which are organic, halal, handmade in Toronto and lots of jewellery, hijabs and clothing.

Come out and have a great night out, meet new people and make something!
Hope to see you there!

Happy Crafting

Picks of the Week

Here are the picks for this week. After watching Skyfall this weekend and noticing the vintage globe in one of the scenes I really want to get my hands on one. I will be thrifting and scouring around to find one soon. I have been obsessed with letterpress for longer than I know. I love these letterpress monogram cards from Austin Press, really cute and it is something I want to do on my own for sure. I also have a beautiful wood + Neon hardwood bowl. The combination of woods/wood grain with neon looks so awesome, again something on my to-make list. I have also found this luxurious cashmere infinity scarf. I personally am on the hunt for some fabrics to make my own(& potentially sell some on my Etsy shop...keep an eye out!) Lastly I have one more piece of stationary because I just really love physical cards and prints. I found these really cute Christmas cards, a set of six only runs you in at about $18. I love the block print, the colors and the quality of the card. If you want something on of a kind and special this is really it. No two cards are made alike because they are hand printed and due to his nature they can not be duplicated exactly the same ever.

DIY Gold Tipped Collar shirt

When TopShop opened at The Bay queen street in Toronto I saw a gorgeous white sheer shirt with a simple Gold tipped Collar. I included a similar one on my weekly picks and promised this tutorial. There was no way I was going to fork out $70 (at least not right then and there.) I figured it couldn't be that hard to make my own version of of.

I went ahead and ordered the gold collar tips off of an Ebay seller for less than $5 for the 4 that I was going to use. The Shirt cost me $15 from a store called Katie. The total cost was $20 versus $70. I think the hardest part of the entire project was waiting for the clips to come in.

For this project you will need:

1 Sheer top with a collar and cuffed sleeves
2-4 gold collar tips
Needle nose pliers

Picks of the Week

Here are the picks for this week. I am in love with paper, but you all should know that by now. I love this wrapping paper that is an online exclusive for Anthropologie. These striped coffee bags are so chic and you can use them for anything other than coffee. It is a great way to hand deliver some holiday cookies to your friends and family. Another thing I just adore are the nesting dolls. I have yet to get my hands on them but they are great. You can grab these nesting dolls from Urban outfitters and use them as a the measuring cups like they were made for. I grabbed this May Arts Fleur de Lis Ribbon a while ago and haven't really used it yet, I just really liked the print and will one day find a use for it! Lastly, I found these super cute Octagon shaped vintage labels and I always love me some vintage!

Picks of the Week

For this week I have picked out a few things that I have been eyeing over or have seen a lot of lately. I have seen a lot of Chalkboard everywhere. This might be a small thing like chalkboard paint, or chalkboard menu but I found this really cute chalkboard tablet as a replacement for jotting down notes instead of using a note pad. A good way to save paper! I also have fur, everyone is wearing fur right now, whether it is faux fur or real. I really liked this fur vest from Forever21 and a faux fur scarf from BCBG Maxazria. The Peplum style is really in right now, from this really cute peplum dress featured here today to peplum skirts and peplum tops.Lastly I have these really cute flat studded boots from Topshop at the Bay which I spotted while at the store. I think I may just get them because they are flat. There is just so much heel a girl can endure! Happy shopping!

DIY Cap toe studded flats

Transform some plain flats into a pair of gorgeous gold cap toe studded flats!

Here is what you will need:

  • Plain flats (mine cost only $7)

  • Gold spray pain (on hand)

  • Gold pyramid studs ($3/20)

  • Masking tape

  • Scrap paper

  • Needle

  • Pliers

Start with a pair of plain flats, make sure they are cleaned on the surface.

Mask off the section that you want to be gold. The depth is your own choice. Make sure there are no gaps, and that the tape is as flat as possible. You do not want the gold to seep into the clean white space.

Once that is taped off take a scrap piece of paper and cover the rest of the shoe so that the spray paint does not sprinkle all over the shoes.  Once the spray paint is on, let the paint dry in front of a fan or just air dry. The paint will need to be completely dry before any tape is peeled off. Remove the paper and tape and make sure lines are straight.

Decide where you want to place the studs. Push the pins of the stud into the material so that there is an impression. Use a thick sewing needle in order to pierce through the shoe and then push the stud through. Use pliers to flatten the pins in the inside of the shoe. Repeat where ever you add studs.

I thought that the inside would irritate with the studs but I could not feel them at all. One tip I would recommend when purchasing ‘cheaper’ shoes is to get half a size larger and use gel cushions in the back so that the shoes will be comfortable enough to wear.

Now you can wear your one of a kind shoes with pride!
